Description
Stephen King is a prolific writer and compelling story teller. How can you become these things? Join this focused group of wordsmiths as we dissect his method. You can write in any genre. You do NOT have to write horror or thriller stories. Just show up with the desire to write, get feedback, and take your project from start to finish in record time.
We will refer to some books as we go along. Here's a short list:
On Writing by Stephen King
Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg
If It Bleeds - a collection of four novellas by Stephen King
The cohort meets weekly and provides an asynchronous space for studying, gathering, asking questions, and daily support. Weekly meetings include writing in silence, breakout rooms, feedback and encouragement.
"Writing long-form fiction is a new experience for me, so I signed up to try my hand at it with this group. Little did I know that the camaraderie among the writers would be the finest part of the experience. To hear that others are going through the same struggles, but also the same elation and excitement--it's been a game changer. What a gift." - Stephanie, Cohort 1
"I joined because of the magic lure "publishing" but I stayed because of the fellowship of the writers. Kindred spirits who plod and toil and make shit up. I've been inspired to start writing again, and the words have been pouring out. I can't thank you enough - the support, the kindness, the friendship and encouragement is amazing and shared so freely in this wonderful crazy, eclectic group. Kinda like the fellowship of the ring but not nearly so dire." - Elle, Cohort 1
"When you meet with a group of writers, at various stages of their craft, you meet with a unique point of view from each one. My mind and my writing has expanded. With the reading of Stephen King's novella, we're helped with his well-educated style. To note: it's not horror writing that we're learning, but how to say a lot in a tighter form. If you're a poet, but like me have written other forms of writing, you're probably used to the economy of words. Novellas are perfect for poets. They're taking prose poetry to a collaborative relationship with the writer in you. Bonus points for having a brilliant teacher with Susan Brearley." -- Lisa, Cohort 1
